About the O Christmas Tree

Written by Artist: Shahsultan - Sofia

This painting captures the one thing that unites us all: our beloved Christmas tree. There’s a special magic in the ritual of welcoming a fresh tree, carefully hanging ornaments, draping it with tinsel and lights, and topping it all off with the perfect tree topper. Most importantly, it’s about decorating with loved ones—sharing stories from the past, remembering those we’ve lost, and making new memories together. For me, this moment is the true highlight of Christmas. It brings a sense of peace and joy that makes everything brighter. In these simple, shared moments, we generate one of the highest frequencies of love all year—we’re not selfish or stressed, but simply present and connected. This is the spirit that fuels both Christmas and the world.

“O Christmas Tree” (originally “O Tannenbaum”) is a 19th-century German carol based on a 16th-century folk song, honoring the evergreen tree’s steadfast beauty. Though the melody is ancient, the modern lyrics celebrate the Christmas tree’s branches as symbols of enduring hope and joy.

The painting itself depicts a Christmas tree standing tall in a beautiful winter wonderland. Christmas is a season for sharing and giving, so let’s pause to truly appreciate how much joy our Christmas trees bring into our lives.

These symbols of the holiday season, with roots in 16th-century Germany, represent eternal life and renewal. Over 100 million trees are sold annually in Europe and North America, each one taking 7–10 years to reach maturity. The tallest recorded Christmas tree stood an astonishing 221 feet in 1950. Even before modern times, Druids and ancient Romans used evergreen boughs to symbolize life, immortality, and to ward off evil spirits and illness during the dark winter months. On December 24th, medieval German plays featured a fir tree adorned with apples, representing the Tree of Knowledge from the Garden of Eden. The earliest decorated Christmas trees appeared in Riga, Latvia (1510) and Germany, where they were embellished with apples, nuts, dates, and paper flowers. Over time, the tradition evolved, merging the symbolic apples and wafers from mystery plays into the modern custom of decorating our trees.

The message behind this painting is simple: savor the little moments in life and slow down to truly appreciate your Christmas tree—because life is meant to be lived with love.

If you’re someone who wishes every day could feel like Christmas, let this painting be your reminder that you can create that magic any day, simply by being present and kind. It also makes a wonderful gift for anyone who adores Christmas or loves winter—bringing warmth, charm, and a touch of holiday spirit to any home.
